Cardinal Health urEssential Award to Recognize Medical Laboratory Professional
12/17/2014
Company Will Present $20,000 Scholarship on Winner’s Behalf to Support Students Seeking Careers in Laboratory Medicine

DUBLIN, Ohio, Dec. 17, 2014 — Cardinal Health is seeking stories of innovative, inspirational, passionate medical laboratory professionals in the second year of its urEssential award program, an award program to recognize medical laboratory professionals and their contributions to the field of health care.

“Laboratorians are unsung heroes, working quietly behind the scenes and contributing to care that is helping people live longer, healthier lives,” said Chris Kerski, senior vice president and general manager of Laboratory Products at Cardinal Health. “Without them, health care would be missing an essential element. This award is our way of celebrating medical laboratory professionals and their achievements that are so instrumental to driving the future of health care and laboratory diagnostics.”

Medical laboratory professionals can apply for the award directly, or they may be nominated by others. Nominators can visit cardinalhealth.com/urEssential to share their stories or those of peers who motivate, inspire and work to change clinical laboratory science.

Applications will be accepted through Feb. 28, 2015. The winner will be announced during Medical Laboratory Professionals Week April 19-25, 2015, and recognized during the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science annual meeting in July in conjunction with the American Association for Clinical Chemistry. Cardinal Health will present a $20,000 scholarship on one finalist’s behalf to the 501(c)(3)-accredited institution of higher learning of his or her choice. These funds will go to students pursuing careers in laboratory medicine.

The 2014 urEssential Award winner was Debra Wood, Histotechnology program director and clinical assistant professor at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. Learn more about Debra and her contributions to clinical laboratory science by visiting cardinalhealth.com/urEssential.
